Thanks to the tremendous distance from Earth to the Kuiper Belt, no missions to it have been executed. However, on January 19th, 2006, NASA launched the New Horizons spacecraft. It's goal: to reach, and research the Kuiper Belt, starting with Pluto. It is equipped with a multitude of instruments used to monitor the atmosphere, surface, and interiors of Pluto and it's neighbors. New Horizons is expected to reach Pluto in 2015. From there, it will proceed to explore the Kuiper Belt starting some time in 2018. As of October 25th, 2013, New Horizons is a mere 5 AUs from Pluto, and has already managed to snap a photo of Pluto, and it's moon, Charon.
